WA_Surf Spots

My name is Leo and have been surfing all around the world. I’ve been living in Bali and getting to surf perfect waves almost all year round. During the rainy season (November to April) my friends and I would always go to Western Oz for some dryer weather and surf more perfect uncrowded waves.

My first time we rented a motor home for 2 weeks and explored the coast ourselves missing half the spots but having a great time trying to find the ones we did.

Arriving in Perth and then driving on the other side of the road for the first 3 hours was fun but weird. We finally made it to World Famous Margaret River at night and we were stoked to be there. When we woke up on a chilly morning you could hear the waves pounding. The first day was a solid 6 to 8 ft backs and perfect. I used to live in Hawaii and was used to surfing big waves but this place was serious. My friends and I went for it and had a great time. The locals were so nice in the water and kept giving us waves saying, “ go mate” They said that the swell had just started and was going to get bigger. They called “bloody 15 ft mate” but now we knew that we were going to score it all. We surfed the whole coast from Red Gate to Rocky Point. We had a big motor home so we could not go to a lot of the breaks because you need a 4x4 to get to them but we still had plenty of other options. There are over 30 breaks on this stretch of coast and I spent over 2 months exploring and understanding each different spot, best tides, etc.

Unlike America or other crowded surf breaks there can be attitude in the water. Aussie’s rule when it comes to sharing waves!!!! As long as you have respect for them and give them a”G’day mate” you’re in!!

We traveled through a lot of small towns after we left Margaret’s. Really small towns like Grace Town, Cowaramup, Yallingup, Dunsbrough to name a few a still each town has there own perfect break or breaks I should say.

We made so many friends and was really refreshing to see how polite Surfers can still be to traveling surfers. I fell in love with the town of Yallingup. It is smack in the middle of all the breaks and had a little nightlife but most importantly always had waves and never was really crowded.

Our 2 weeks were up in the motor home and my friends had real jobs and had to go back to work. I on the other hand was just getting started. I rented a 4x4 and off I went on my own. I was surfing a place called Super Tubes (which lives up to it’s name) and was leaving when I met this girl on the beach.  She was really nice and asked me where I was staying. I pointed to my rental 4x4 and she invited for me to stay with her and her kids. I was stoked, beautiful lady, warm house, home cooking, and to find out all 3 of her kids grew up surfing this area and really knew the spots. Her oldest son Matt and I hit it off. She gave him a pass from school to take me around and go surfing, what a mom.

We surfed everyday we could and I got to surf with Pro’s Taj & Jake Patterson who grew up here. Even the pro’s were cool and shared waves. I was thinking to myself, what a country. I also never did meet any other traveling surfers the whole time and thought, Wow - W.A.S.T.

I have been in Indonesia for over 5 years doing surfing Tours as well B.S.T. (Bali Surfing Tours) and decided to offer Surfing Tours In Western Australia.

We only take small groups to keep it uncrowded but have now a 5 bedroom house, Surf Guides, 4x4 transport and is slowly becoming my second home.

Western Oz is not cheap and after airfare, just renting a car, or 4x4, paying for hotels which there aren’t really any in the small towns. Paying for 3 meals a day plus of course drinks & beer it can get pretty expensive.

My goal is to make it all easy an Idiot proof and cheaper then if you did it yourself. If you do not have a lot of time and are on a budget let W.A.ST. Let us show you the way.

You will be stoked that you did!!!!!!!
